Exploring Woodstock, NC
ICS Summer Interns
From June 12th to July 28th 2023 ICS started the Woodstock project. Three interns came to Woodstock, North Carolina, to learn as much about ICS's operations as possible. As things progressed, the interns developed skills relating to boating, business, and drone operations. After classroom training for a week, they ventured out onto the water with the first generation of ICS drones. They then began mapping the layout of the submerged town of Woodstock. Using new subsurface capabilities they were able plot abnormalities which could be relics or building foundations of the past. On the adjoining map, red marks are parallel to the shore and blue represent points perpendicular to shore.

The first generation of ICS drones were from the company FiFish. The first drone used was the FiFish V6 Pro Plus. Other drones were used from the company such as the FiFish V6, and the FiFish V6 Expert. They are used for capturing video of the bottom or specific objects that may need to be inspected. ICS uses the drones to inspect anything they find on the bottom before retrieving it.
ICS can then transmit video of what the drone is seeing anywhere in the world via WIFI.
Generation 1
The second generation of ICS equipment came from the company JW Fishers. ICS used its Sub Bottom Profiler (SBP) to determined what and where items were located under the surface of the river. The equipment is used for sonar readings, the sub bottom profiler is able to find objects up to 150 feet under the surface.
Generation 2
Discoveries
ICS students were able to find many relics of the past, mainly pottery and other earthen ware. After scouting out a place, digging and sifting through the sand, they were able to find pottery pieces (Left), as well as bricks (Right) that may have belong to buildings from that era. The most interesting items found was the decorated pottery (Bottom) which appear to have designs on them.
